April 1, 2009 - New Seats

With the baby's big arrival only 14 days away, we figured it was about time we decided what to do about the seating arrangement in the Armada. We have been struggling with the decision for some time, even considering buying a different car, until last week...when Ava decided she wanted to buckle herself in!

We have three rows in our car, but I wasn't sure how I was ever going to squeeze into the way back to help Ava buckle herself in. We had tried not to think about it, but reality set in, and just when it did, Ava solved all our problems!

Once we knew she could sit in the 3rd row all by herself and buckle herself in, we needed to figure out what to do with our 2nd row and get Ava's car seat buckled into the back. The problem we ran into was if Ava were to buckle herself in, her seat would need to be installed using the latch system, which there isn't in the 3rd row! Finally after about 2 hours of trying every possible combination, we decided I needed to run to Target and buy yet another car seat, a booster.

There was no installation required, only a seatbelt to keep the kid in place! Kyle was ecstatic with the news and then proceeded to install the new baby's car seat where Ava used to sit with the middle seat folded down for Ava to climb over!

We thought she would like the 3rd row more than sitting in between Jack and the new baby, but only time will tell.

In the morning, Ava was beyond thrilled to learn what her car seat fate would be and had this face on when she first got in the car.

Once she climbed over the middle seat she literally jumped into her new booster and had this expression.

She struggled at first with the buckle, because the buckle in the 3rd row is not rigid. She couldn't figure out how to keep the belt extended enough to reach the latch while holding the buckle and trying to latch it. I was worried at first...

But she got it and was so proud of her accomplishment!

Jack on the other hand climbed into the back with Ava only to find his seat had not moved and that he was next to folded seat by the baby seat. I felt so sorry for him at first, but the fewer changes for him, the better!
