Too Much Junk

Tonight, while we were eating another course of dinner after fireworks, Ben spent some time in the couch with an upset stomach!!  Love this picture, it’s so real!!  Thanks to the stomach aches, though, the kids were happy to go to bed instead of staying up until midnight!!!

Fireworks, Family and Friends

Today we felt honored to have Matt and his family up visiting for New Years. We don’t get many visitors and wish this pandemic would stop keeping everyone separated.  Tonight, though, we ate fondue, apps and dessert, went skiing and even launched some explosives at a friend’s house since our neighborhood bans fireworks. It was a spectacular day AND display!!

Date night?

With Kyle being in Michigan and having a huge law project on his plate, our dates have become even more essential.  Tonight we made a trek to SLC to do some Christmas returns and shopping as well as eat dinner at a restaurant!  Everything felt very surreal, haven’t shopped in a long time or gone to a nice restaurant!!  Glad we did it, wish the divide didn’t shut down on our way home though!!

Missing Our Snow

This time last year we had 50 inches more snow.  That seems completely unbelievable, but it’s true, we are down 4 feet of snowfall!  Our resort only has two lifts open and we are missing our powder days. Once the break is over and people who are visiting go home, it would be really nice to get on the mountain and enjoy some fresh snow, even if it’s only on two lifts!!

In the past, I would take Ulli snow shoeing, because there was so much snow and the roads were sloppy, not this year. He goes on a boring walk everyday, but jumps in a small snow pile at the bottom of our driveway when we are finished.

Underdogs!!

Ben has been on a basketball team for the last few months that has really struggled to make baskets, pass, catch balls, rebound AMD especially dribble. It has been some of the worst nights driving all the way to ogden for a late game where our team loses 60-3. Ben has cried, been frustrated, wanted to quit, but in the end he has improved his determination to win and tonight that happened!!  The other team only had 4 players, so we only played one half of the game.  We won and Ben had 8 of the team’s 10 points at the time of this photo!!

Another Christmas in the Books

This guy’s health has always been a little shaky, but he has had a pretty good year with us mot traveling much due to Covid.  I took him on a walk today and in spite of there being almost no snow accumulation, it was a beautiful day!!

Yikes!!

Norah had really been enjoying her new wood carving kit for what seemed like hours when she shrieked and clasped her hand over her wrist!  Kyle was nearest and rushed over to discover Norah’s blade had slipped and she scraped her arm barely missing her veins.

Poor Norah was very upset and was afraid to look while we put a bandage on and tried to console her. Kyle took one for the team and sped Norah to the ER reaching speeds 40 miles above the limit.

Once there things went pretty quickly and the two of them were back over the mouywithin the hour. Norah received multiple shots of anesthesia and antibiotics in her wound and then the dr. stitched her back up!  We have to keep the bandage clean for the next 7 days and then go get the stitches removed.

While they were gone I kept dinner going and the other kids watched Home Alone 2. Things could have been worse, thank goodness kyle was in town to save the day!!

You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out!

In honor of Jack’s new sniper gun air rifle we all watched a Christmas Story after an amazing rouladen and bread dumpling dinner!

Homemade Christmas!

Everyone got into the spirit of giving this year and most of the kids even made their gifts by hand!  Ava crocheted everyone a character, Captain America, Han & Leah, Rocket & Groot, a Porg and a snitch pencil topper!

Jack got really creative and made gifts of a creeper head, volleyball, a piano a guitar and a basket out of 3D pen material. Everything was so accurate and detailed!

Norah crocheted a scarf, cozy and creeper head as well as creating a flower drawing book!

Ben made a snowman named Sherlock and gifted everyone’s favorite candy from the store. So many thoughtful and creative gifts!!!

Christmas Morning

Kyle and I were up late watching Four Christmases and wrapping all the kids’ presents, so when 8am rolled around we were still gassed yet amazed the kids were quiet so long.  Wrapping the kids in their rooms on Christmas Eve is a tradition that helps the kids stay in their rooms together until a decent hour.  Kyle and I needed the sleep to deal with all the craziness Christmas day inevitably brings.

Once everyone was up and found all of Santa’s gifts we made an amazing breakfast of Rhode’s cinnamon rolls, fried potatoes from last night’s dinner, sausage and eggs!  Kyle and I even enjoyed a mug full of glühwein each!

We cleaned up the kitchen and got dressed before snapping this picture and opening the presents under the tree!  The kids loved everything they got and spent the day playing video games as well as building, creating and eating tons of candy!!

Holy Baking!!

Christmas goodies barely happened again this year.  Kyle is out of town, of course, and I have being feeling completely overwhelmed by our situation.  Christmas cards only went out with Ava and Kyle’s help stuffing all 110 cards, but baking, packing and delivering 30 boxes of treats just didn’t seem feasible.

Enter our Ava!  She saved the day and baked over 4 hours alongside me today.  She skipped school again and helped me make all 7 different treats!!  This year we made Fudge, salted caramel chocolate chip bars, almond cranberry white chocolate ship cookies, Oreo truffles, frosted sugar cookies, rolo/mnm pretzels and peppermint bark!

The treats were all delicious as well as beautiful and were packed up and delivered to all our neighbors tonight by the kids on foot while I made dinner!  Ben and I delivered a few boxes on the way to a basketball game and the remaining 15 boxes were delivered on Tuesday. So glad we brought some Christmas cheer to so many people!!

10 Inches!!!

It was an amazing snow storm yesterday!  Kyle struggled making it to the airport on time for his flight to MI, while it took us an hour to get home from Ogden!  Ava, Ulli and I took advantage of the beautiful white blanket this morning and snow-shoed at Northfork Park this morning instead of doing an hour and a half of school; Ava is so far ahead, doing 3rd quarter classes as well as an ACT class through BYU instead of working on the last 3+ weeks of 2nd quarter like her peers!

Ulli was in heaven off leash with so much ungrounded snow to play in  he survived the whole trail and was still bouncing around while Ava and I packed up the car to go home.  He loves this place and was very obedient and aware of how far he was from us at all times.  What a good boy, so glad Ava and I were able to enjoy this breathtaking place!!

Story Time

Ava thought Ulli might be interested in hearing a beloved Christmas story. He endured long enough to take this adorable picture and get a little video. Love this girl and her pup!!

Sold Out!!

Ava crocheted 7 Yodas for the Christmas shop in town this week. I wanted to snap a picture in front of her wares so we headed down shortly after the shop opened. When we got there 40 minutes after it opened, 3 of the yodas had already sold!

Ava was motivated to crochet a few more since the shop was to be held for two days. She was able to squeak out 3 more by dismantling other creations and using their yarn. It was an afternoon well spent and the remaining 7 yodas sold as well!!  She’s quite the little entrepreneur!

Brace Face!

I might have been more nervous than Norah when this morning rolled around.  After we dropped Ben off at school, the two of us headed to the orthodontist for Norah’s long awaited appointment!!

Because Norah has such a small palette, she was fitted for an expander and was not able to have a wire put on the top brackets, but her bottom teeth got the full treatment and this girl was forever changed after about two hours!

Norah has been brave and positive all day in spite of the obvious pain she is enduring from the bottom brackets and wire.  I think she looks older now, but just as cute, if not cuter than before!!  Love this girl!!

Christmas Card Magic

We embraced the wind in this picture and just adjusted the colors of Ben’s tie dye shirt. It was fun taking another Christmas card picture on location, but dragging the tripod around all day from UT to MI was not as awesome. Luckily the tripod broke after we took this picture so I didn’t have to lug it back home with me.

11/29/2020

Tree Time!

We took advantage of Kyle’s long arms and had him top the tree after the rest of us fluffed and decorated our favorite fake tree from Texas. I love this picture, we even got Ulli in it!!

11/26/2020

Salted Caramel Pumpkin Cheesecake!

Dessert was as amazing it sounds.  The salted caramel topping really made the cheesecake zing!  We were all stuffed after dinner, but thankfully we forgot to make rolls and were able to squeeze in a slice before bed!

Bacon Wrapped Turkey!

Kyle found a recipe for a turkey that included wrapping it in bacon after brining in stout overnight!  He glazed it during the oven time and it was a beautiful bird-we all enjoyed it as well as having our favorite chef in town for the past week and a half!

11/23/2020

Yearbook Cover Entry!

Norah created another a beautiful cover this year and so did Ben, but he turned his in before I could snap a picture of it!  If they make it to the top 5 entries in the school, they will be featured in the yearbook!  This one looks like a winner to me!

11/22/2020

Baby Yoda’s!

Ava decided to team up with a local shop for their Christmas shop event on December 3rd and 4th.  She chose 3 crocheted creatures to sell.  Yoda has been a favorite around here-hope everyone in attendance at the shop agrees!

Puzzle King!

Jack has been working hard on this 1,000 piece dog puzzle for awhile now. He even had to put it away for a few weeks. This puzzle is so complicated there is an alphabetized grid on the back of the pieces to help the user out. Originally, Jack was not using this “cheat,” but has since decided it is a good idea!

Snow Time!

We have had three big snowfalls this week, the last of which was part of a 24 hour winter storm warning.  We were supposed to get dumped on Friday night, but things fizzled out shortly after Kyle arrived home and fixed the snowblower’s sheer pin.  I was unnecessarily  nervous about the 20+ inches we were supposed to receive without a working snowblower on hand.

Hope the powder sticks around in spite of all the sun in the forecast.  Kyle will be home the next two weeks, thankfully, and we probably won’t even need his help clearing the driveway!

King of Donuts

Jack has gotten really good at making donuts at home for the family!  Grammy gifted us a donut baker a few years back and no one has really gotten into it, until now!  Favorites include, chocolate chip with chocolate frosting and vanilla with glaze on top!  As long as Jack does the dishes afterwards we are all thrilled with his new hobby!!

1st Article!

Norah has been one of the 6th grade news reporters and her article about the new teachers at the elementary school was printed on the front page!  Her article was very well written and unbiased, especially the side note about wearing masks at school. Not surprising her article was printed, but amazing nonetheless!

Halloween is Fun!

After pumpkins, we went on a bike ride/hike and then enjoyed our traditional mummy dogs for dinner.  Kyle whipped up a batch of butter beer to warm us before heading off for the night.

Jack opted out of dressing up and trick or treating with the family to watch War of the Worlds at a friend’s house and eat pizza. We sent Jack off with a bucket of candy to share, but I think Ava had more fun hanging with her fun family and collecting ALL the treats!!

Halloween 2020!

It’s been a spooky year and Halloween is no different with the world of COVID 19 craziness!  We weren’t sure how many people would be welcoming to trick or treaters, but somehow the kids managed to score a ton of candy and have fun together on the warmest Halloween we’ve celebrated in Utah!!

Pumpkin Loving Pooch!!

Ulli has always been a fan of pumpkins, he loves jack o lanterns too!

Pumpkin Creations!

The kids picked out some pumpkins at the girls’ piano teacher’s farm and wanted to carve them ever since.  Unfortunately we waited too long and they got soggy!! Fortunately for the kids, last night after the Haunted Hollow, Kyle stopped and bought some new pumpkins and a kit for carving them.

Kyle has a side business he is starting with a friend from Texas that is a pumpkin carving tool business.   With the help of the tool and the little knives Kyle picked up last night, the kids all carved their own pumpkins!  They all turned out super unique and exactly like the kids envisioned!  So fun!!

Fall Pictures!

We carved pumpkins today and were so in love with our creations and the amazing weather, we headed outside and took some amazing pictures!  I kind of love how grown up these kids are looking

Haunted Hollow!!

Kyle took Ava and Jack to a haunted house in Farr West. Jack was hesitant about going, said it wasn’t going to be scary and he didn’t want to waste his time.  40 minutes later and he was spooked!  The 13 year old actually said he was scared after the first event!

So glad Kyle was able to spend some quality time with these guys, while I stayed home with Norah and Ben and watched PG scary movies!!  We all enjoyed our night and Ava was even able to fit in some night driving-win win for everyone!

10/26/2020

Made It!!

This tall drink of water not only crushed her goal of making a 12 year old volleyball team, she was invited to join a 13 year old competitive team after her impressive tryout on Thursday!!  Norah has been practicing her passing with Ava whenever she can and was showing great power during our serving session in Michigan. Norah served all but one ball over the net and passed and hit alongside her older peers!  Way to go Norah!!

10/25/2020

Boo Time!

This year we were fortunate enough to be the recipients of a boo!  Along with the signage we were “secretly” given some pumpkin cupcakes!  The treats were delicious and inspired us to make our pumpkin goodness and spread some Halloween spookiness!!

The kids got extremely creative with their Boo signs this year, picking out Halloween coloring pages online and adding text before printing and coloring them!  Each child’s choice was very unique!  We had to be selective with the families we Boo’ed, so as not to scare any little guys!

Creating these masterpieces was only half the fun, running around in the 20 degree, pitch black night on main roads, long driveways and side streets was such a memorable way to show friends they are loved!!  Wish Kyle could have been with us, he is the doorbell ditch master; apparently he has taught his posterity well!

10/24/2020

Furry Ball!

Ulli has been curling up in a ball lately and I finally got a picture. He is so silky soft since he came home from the groomers, he feels as amazing as he looks!

10/23/2020

Big Man in the House!

Took this today to document Jack’s stature!  He is 6’4” 198 pounds in socks!!  Can’t wait to see his stats when the junior high season officially starts.

Captain Ava

This was Ava’s second year in a row being the captain of her volleyball team.  She was the right person for the job last year and this year was no different .  She’s been at every practice, tournament and game and has worked her butt off in spite of the treatment she received from the coaches or other players.  She’s been an example of courage and perseverance in the face of challenges no teenager should have to endure.  We are so proud of our Ava and can’t wait to see what advances she will make in the off-season!!  Go Ava Go!!

Last Night!

After our septic adventure yesterday we were all ready for a day of rest!  Today included church via Zoom, donuts for breakfast, pumpkin pancakes for brunch, volleyball at the park, a walk on the beach and German food for dinner!  Thank goodness for Sunday’s!

Lake Michigan Picture 2.0

The last time Kyle and I took a picture on the shores of Lake Michigan, it was for our wedding announcements.  I had Kyle sit in the sand, then got out our camera, drew a line in the sand and then asked a random to snap a picture.

The photo was picture perfect and the rest us history!  Today, Ava took our picture and then Norah insisted on a kissing picture-love both!!
