Our missionary was able to talk to us December 23, 24, 25, 31, and January 1. Having so much down time and not being able to proselyte has left Ava feeling the difference. We got to be on a call with her right before midnight tonight because of the time difference and it was so fun! She played the game Bank with us and then rang in the new year! It was so fun to have her join us especially after having to cancel our traditional ski night due to Norah being sick and Powder selling out for the night!

Sleeper!!
This guy is so tuckered out from having all the kids home so he has been sleeping even MORE! I love that he is just splayed out in the middle of the room!

Favorite Gift!
Ulli got a stuffed pizza for Christmas and he absolutely loves it and will grab it out of his basket and either bite it or try to get us to play tug of war with him. It is so adorable!

Buddies!!
Ava has really been enjoying her week with sister Butcher! They spent a ton of time on exchanges and partying with members for the holidays making it hard to get to know each other, but so far Ava has nothing negative to say about her! She still misses Sister Kimball and Sister Chase, but right now Sister Butcher seems like she will be fun to get to know better!!

Christmas Snowshoe!
We got an inch of snow last night making our Christmas morning views breathtaking. Norah decided to brave the cold with Ulli and I on a snowshoe adventure in Northfork. Ben wanted to come too, but we only have 2 pairs of snowshoes! Jack needed some company anyways while Kyle worked on some dinner prep.
Christmas Morning!
Ava had already a full day when we all got up and jumped back on a video call with her. We chatted for about 4 hours and Ava got to be part of our breakfast and gift opening. It was so fun to take this picture with everyone in it!
Yessss!
Yesterday we got to video chat with Ava as well as last night and today! Last night was Christmas morning in Germany so we got to watch Ava open all her gifts! It was so fun to be able to focus our attention completely on Ava and seeing how grateful she was for the shower curtain and hairdryer for her apartment as well as the brush pens, crochet kit and red hat made it feel like we were right there with her! Grammy sent a fun hoodie that Ava popped on immediately!

Butterscotch Drink!
After dinner we read some scriptures and watched The Christ Child Movie while sipping some homemade butterscotch drinks with salted caramel foam! Kyle knocked it out of the park-this drink was creamy and foamy and had the best flavor!
Raclette
We didn’t ski, but kept with our traditional Raclette dinner. Everything was beautiful and tasted amazing. We alsmosy had to cancel our dinner due to a lack of Raclette cheese at Smth’s, but we went back again yesterday and they had some cut for us at Cheese Island!
No Skiing!
With Jack in a boot we skipped our Christmas Eve day skiing and opted for a movie instead. We got tickets to the Mufasa movie and enjoyed our movie in 3D reclined with our feet up!

Surgery!
It was weird to be thrilled with the news that surgery would happen, but Christmas break is the perfect time for this guy to sit around. School is no fun on crutches or with a boot. Skipping basketball this year made this surgery timing possible.
As usual, Jack did not want to wake up and kept trying to go back to sleep after surgery. His pain was high when he did wake up, but that’s due to the aggressive nature of the bone removal this time. A chisel was involved this time and hopefully there will be no regrowth this time!

Christmas Cutie!
Norah has been the most excited about Christmas this year. She enjoyed the caroling and helped make the goodie boxes and tags. She has been upbeat and helpful with the snow removal and even helped me with the Christmas decorations while the boys were out of town. Ulli is excited too!
Christmas Cheer!
We made reindeer mix again this year since it was such a hit last year and we paid a company to print, address and mail our Christmas cards. This has been a busy Christmas season and I was grateful for the low key goodies and the help with the cards!

Hannover Christmas Market!
This is such a beautiful part of the Christmas Market-we have a miniature version sitting on our counter at home.
Caroling Goodies!
We boxed up some fun candies and made a sweet little invitation to our Christmas service tomorrow to give to the homes we planned to carol to tonight. We invited another family and the missionaries to come with us and it was awesome! We sand Away in a Manger and the 5 people who answered seemed to enjoy the music or meeting us afterwards. It was a very uplifting end to the busy week!

Super Sick!
Jack was up Friday morning at 3am with a temperature and skipped school. He got worse throughout the day topping off at 103.8 as a temperature. He had the chills, was achy and a cough and sore throat. We started to panic wondering if he would be able to have surgery. He couldn’t have any Advil, so we pumped him with Tylenol to keep the fever under control. He took baths, showers, took Tylenol, drank Gatorade by the gallon, and gargled salt water. We even busted out the nebulizer to see if we could get his cough under control.
Nothing seemed to make him comfortable and it seemed like he would be too sick to get his surgery at 11 on Monday. Sunday night at midnight he was still up drinking and taking Tylenol. We had given him some cough medicine and realized that was on the “don’t take before surgery” list giving us even less hope that surgery would happen.
Monday morning at 3am, Jack was up covered in sweat and then again a little while later. He was sleeping on a towel at this point because his sheets were too wet! When he rolled out of bed around 9 and had no fever we called the dr’s office to see what we should do. They said it was ok that he had taken the cold medicine and since he was feeling better they said surgery was happening!
Ulli Bear!
Winter is definitely Ulli’s favorite time of year! He has more energy and has been seen doing the cutest things!!
Not sure he has figured out that the vent blows warm air in the winter though!
Coming up the stairs one day brought me upon this adorable sight! Love the Germany flag in the background!
Another day Ulli saw some wild turkeys across the street and stared at them through the glass door. When I let home out on the deck, though, he immediately wanted to come inside! What a weirdo!!

Sister Butcher!
Ava started training sister Butcher to be a sister training leader after Sister Elgan went home. She is from Farmington Utah and has been out for 10 months. Ava said she hasn’t gotten to know her a ton since she’s had so much phone time with us and so many Christmas get togethers. Ava said she is excited to get to know her though!

100!!
Jack got an order for 100 cookies a few weeks ago and with some prepping and time management he was able to get all the dough made and baked in 3 hours a day earlier than originally scheduled! That’s almost $50/hour!

12th place!
Kyle added a few players he noticed at last week’s tournament to the roster so Ben would be able to play in the tournament this weekend. It was a rough start against the top two teams in the club division who already had national bids in the open division, but throughout the weekend they got better at playing together and ended up 2nd place in the Silver bracket. Nice job boys and great job coach!

Fun on the Strip!
After Saturday’s games the boys were pretty wiped, so they walked to strip to check out the Bellagio fountain and then headed straight back to the hotel. It’s a lot of work to play and ref and sit for hours!!

Pinball Museum
After the temple Jack got dropped at the hotel while Kyle, Ben and their team had dinner and headed to the local Pinball Museum. It was very much a museum and not an arcade, but it was hard not to be loud and rowdy for the boys so they got kicked out!
Friday Night!
While the boys are in Vegas at a tournament and making a stop at the temple, Norah and I are hitting the gym and Neilson’s for a caramel, marshmallow, peanut butter, chocolate concrete! We all had a good night!!

Sunrise!
Norah had a makeup test in Chemistry I had to drive her to this morning and on the way home I was coming over trappers loop and saw this sight. It was so stunning I pulled over and took this picture and thought of Ava-she misses the mountains. I texted her this picture and then drove on home!

Mandelhorn!
Kyle has mastered so many German dishes and today he added almond horn to the list! They tasted so authentic filled with marzipan and dipped in chocolate, but looked a little flat because of the altitude. We will figure that out soon and these babies will look as good as they taste!

Klingling
- These cuties have been so busy doing exchanges with other sisters in their district, they haven’t hadmuch time for knocking doors, but today they snuck in a few and Ava learned some new techniques from her senior companion!
UBVA Utah Championship
Both the boys’ team won their tournament today Jack’s team never lost a single set and Ben’s team only lost 1 set, but came back to win the game. Each team played 9 games in 2 days-that’s a lot of volleyball!

Hannover!
Ava and Sister Elgan explored the Hannover Christmas Market to find a gluwein cup for Sister Elgan to take home with her in two weeks. Just outside the market are the most quaint streets!

Puppy Face!
We were tempting Ulli with table food and he was VERY interested! His face is so precious, he did get the tiny scrap because he was so mind blowingly cute!!
