April 4, 2009 - General Conference

At church on Sunday, Ava got a General Conference packet to color on during the 8 hours of General Conference she would be viewing this weekend. She was super excited to do it last Sunday, but after some convincing, she decided to wait until this weekend. Because she couldn't read the activity instructions, she ended just coloring every single page, it was so cute!

In her haste, she was done after the Saturday morning session and ended up just playing with the papers during the Saturday afternoon session, leaving Sunday's two sessions way open. Playing with toys made a perfect substitute, though, and Kyle and I were able to enjoy the uplifting messages of the leaders of the church.

I can't pinpoint who said what, but the points I am taking away from the speakers are-

  • Life is about trials-get over it.
  • It is our job to get through them and if we can do it well, we will grow from the experience and be that much closer to being like our Father in Heaven.
  • This "experience" is what will make us truly happy, not all the worldly stuff we try to do on our own.
  • We need to want to do Heavenly Father's will more than ANYTHING else.
  • Live as the example we should be to our children.
  • I love the song, "Consider the Lilies of the Field."
  • Apply and reapply gospel principles, it is a daily process.
  • The Lord will shape the back to fit the burden.
  • Laugh whenever you want to groan.
  • Because Jesus walked alone, we don't have to.
  • Satan wants us all to be the same.
  • The true downfall of man was trying to find something other than God to make us happy.
  • There are no great acts, only small acts with great heart. - Mother Theresa
  • We are happier when we serve for what we give, not what we get.
