April 4, 2009 - Circus
We had been to the store and noticed some tickets on sale for a local circus earlier in the week. We passes on them during that trip to the store, because that was the day Jack was acting super crazy and I just was not interested in taking care of anything outside the immediate needs of the family.
On Friday during the Easter Egg Hunt with friends a couple people said they were going that night and that the tickets were only $20 for a family of 4! I was intrigued, but had to run it by Kyle and the kids before jumping on the great deal.
After about 2 seconds of discussion, we decided we would go Saturday afternoon. The kids were way excited and we even convinced Ava to wear pants that in preparation for the day's events.
We ran out of time to go and get some cash and were amazed to see the turnout for this circus that was literally less than a mile from our house. I was worried about getting seats behind someone tall, so I ran into the tent to save some while Kyle and the kids looked at the hippo, zebra, camels, ponies, elephants and lamas. It was a good thing too, because we ended up on the front row with nothing cutting into our view of the show.
The show was about to begin when we used our only money to buy some popcorn and got one of the guys working the reserved seating area to snap our picture. It is amazing that it turned out as clear as it did considering the tent was dark and the guy was super nervous about using our camera.
We had looked up the Carson and Barnes Circus online before going ahead with our decision, but we were pleasantly surprised by the length of the show. The two hours we were there didn't include the 15 minute intermission and the quality of the acts was well worth the money.
It was a little warm under the tent, and it was dinner time without and money for food even though everyone around us was chowing down and the concessions people were constantly up in our grill to buy something. Those two set-backs were minor compared to the crazy stuff the kids got to see up-close.
There was a dog show, an elephant show, two parades of talent one with all the animals, a trapeze act, a hula hoop act, a bendable man act, a clown trampoline act, a spinning metal wheel act, a pony show and various clown shows throughout.
All in all it was a fun time, one I am way glad we were able to do before the baby is born!
